Romansh Grischun is the common written language of the Romansh people of Graubünden developed in 1982 by Heinrich Schmid on behalf of the Lia Rumantscha. At cantonal level, it has been the official Romansh language since 2001.
Romansh Grischun can be divided into five regional variants, referred to as idioms, which are not to be confused with dialects. "Putèr" is spoken in Upper Engadine.
